When you record container damages in an XPS client or XPS RDT handheld, these damages display in both XPS and N4. XPS sends the recorded damage codes to N4 and N4 maps the damage codes to the appropriate damage components, damage types, and damage severity. N4 adds or updates the mapped damage items for the associated container and sends a message back to XPS to add or update the damage severity in XPS.
In addition, the most recent damage recorded in XPS displays in N4 in the Sparcs Damage Code field in the More area in the Unit Inspector's Details pane. If you add or repair damages in N4, the value in the Sparcs Damage Code field in N4 and any existing damages in XPS do not change.
This only applies to containers and not to other types of equipment. In addition, you cannot repair damages in XPS, this can only be done in N4.
If the appropriate damage components and damages types do not exist in N4, N4 automatically adds them in the Damage Components view (on page 1) and Damage Types view (on page 1) respectively. The XPS damage codes are two characters long, the first character maps to the damage component and the second character maps to the damage type and damage severity in N4.
The following table lists the first character of the XPS damage codes and the mapped N4 damage components in the Damage Components view:

For example, the XPS damage code for a container with a hole in the front is 1H and for a container smashed on the left side is 4M. You can enter more than one damage code for a container in XPS.
The damage severity in the damage types table above is hard coded in N4 for damages recorded in XPS. When N4 maps the XPS damage code, N4 determines the damage severity for a damage item based on the damage type. In addition, N4 determines the damage severity for a container with more than one damage item based on the highest severity of the associated damage items, regardless of whether you recorded the damages in N4 or XPS. For example, if a user enters minor damage in XPS and then additional minor damage in N4, the damage severity for the container is Minor. But if a user later enters major damage in either XPS or N4, then the damage severity for the container is Major in N4.
Only Major damages display as damaged equipment in XPS and are not available to be selected for deliveries for the gate.
When N4 maps and saves the damage codes from XPS, the following rules apply:
If you enter an invalid code in XPS, then N4 will map each unknown character to UNKNOWN.
For example, if you enter 8P in XPS, N4 will map this to an UNKNOWN damage component and a RIP damage type.
If you enter a damage code in XPS for a damage item that already exists for the same container in N4, and the matching damage item:
Has a repaired date, N4 will try to map and add a new damage item for the XPS damage code sent.
Does not have a repaired date, N4 will not add an additional duplicate damage item but will map the XPS damage code and may update the damage severity of the existing damage item from Minor to Major if the damage type indicates major damage.
If the damage code sent from XPS indicates minor damage, N4 will not update the damage severity for a matching damage item from Major to Minor.
